Milk Protest

From the front page of the NY Times Online today comes this wonderful picture. It shows a Belgian dairy farmer protesting low milk prices. He is squirting riot police with milk.

Roman Polanski is a F*#&er

I don't want to waste too much time with this, but why does anyone in their right mind stick up for Roman Polanski?

The man drugged and raped a thirteen year old girl and fled the country before he could be properly sentenced.

Sure, he's made some good films, but can someone (anyone?) please explain to me why that changes anything?

Woody Allen and Pedro Almodovar, among many others, have signed a petition demanding his immediate release from the Swiss prison where he is currently being helped. As they see it, "His arrest follows an American arrest warrant dating from 1978 against the filmmaker, in a case of morals" (my emphasis) ...

As if morals were so bad. As if morals are something silly and American. But in my mind, we're not talking about being prude or being overly squeamish about sex (which Americans, sure, are wont to do). We're talking about taking advantage of a young girl, drugging her (Quaaludes and booze) and then raping her...

Am I crazy?

Monkey Whale Fest

Check out www.savethemonkeywhale.com -- We'll be playing the Monkey Whale Fest this upcoming weekend in Greensboro, NC, along lots of other great bands from the region.

If you don't remember seeing it before, or would just like to see it again, go this link to see the video that we did in Harvey's Kitchen for for the Monkey Whale website.

Also, thanks for all your help spreading the word about my online pottery store at ETSY. I appreciate all your past ((and future) help in getting the word out.

Yeltsin

I heard about this on the radio the other night and just loved it. I hope that you enjoy the mental image as well:

WASHINGTON — Russian leader Boris Yeltsin was once found near the White House late at night dressed in his underwear, seemingly drunk and looking for pizza, according to a new book detailing Bill Clinton's presidency. (AFP)

Groundhog Bastard

My fall garden is being overrun by a groundhog or groundhogs. I have just set up a trap (known as a Havahart trap, which is a catch and release trap) that does NOT kill the animal.

This, let me be the first to tell you, is not because I don't want to kill this animal (as Arlo Guthrie once screamed, "I want to kill!") but because if I borrow my friend's gun and shoot it in my yard, I'll be arrested.

So, let's hope this little bastard likes to eat grapes with peanut butter and watermelon. Because if he touches one more of my peas (or all 100 plants or so as last time) again, I may have to go the gun route after all.

Bent Objects

This whole ETSY thing got me thinking again about an artist whose art and site I've loved for a long time.

Check him out at www.bentobjects.blogspot.com. He's also got an etsy site here.

ETSY

Well, well, howdy to all y'all. This is a short note to turn you on to a few things. First, my pottery is now for sale on ETSY, which is nice for a few reasons.

#1 -- You can buy stuff with a credit card.
#2 -- I will be consistently updating the work
#3 -- It will be there all the time, giving you (and your friends) a place that you
can visit whenever you like for all your gifts for yourself and others.

Check it out at: www.bondpottery.etsy.com -- And spread the word, please!

Also, I've been meaning to mention this in this forum for a long time, but I haven't, for some reason -- My brother is currently traveling the world, playing music and meeting people as part of "The Year of a Thousand Roommates" -- It is fun to read about his adventures and travels. His music is also great. Check that out at yearofathousandroommates.com.

That's all for today!

NYC Ad Campaign

I was just reading a column in the NY Times by Michael Pollan (author of The Omnivore's Dilemma, and many other books)and found a link to a picture of NYC's new ad campaign against soda. I like it, even though it's gross, and thought that I'd share it.

Hava Nagila

Here's a video that my friend Jenn made of Sirius.B at one of our semi-recent Asheville shows.

Europe is great -- I'm staying at the moment in a beautiful apartment in Florence and I head in a few days for Paris.

Headed Out

I head out for Europe tomorrow for a three and a half week trip, before returning to get married in early August. Hopefully I'll have time over in Europe to get some photos and tales of travels up here in this blog.

Here's a couple of photos in the meantime for y'all to enjoy. One is of a cucumber from my garden (which, along with my betrothed and my dog, I will miss dreadfully). The other is a picture of the prime position of Sal, the ceramic head (that I made) and its prime placement in the home of my old friends the Weinsteins.

Finally, before I head out -- If you're in Asheville or the surrounding area, make sure to stop by the Clingman Cafe and check out July's art show ("Summer Clay"), which features art by Beth Flanagan, Joey Sheehan, Joy Tanner, Will Baker, and me. Alternatively, if you see anything on the blog that you enjoy, contact me to make a purchase.

A Tale of a Lost Blog

Alas, life has come and taken me away from the computer world for some time, and it seems that I continue to fail to update the blog. On occasion I think of retiring it completely, though I still have much to share and enjoy this place as a forum to do so.

So, I will keep Pancho's Via alive for the meantime and try to at the very least use this as a space to exhibit my current artwork and music.

Thanks for checking in, and have a great day.
