Memorial Day

Memorial Day...a chance to reflect on wars past and present and the sacrifices of veterans throughout history. Also a chance to grill food, drink beer, and if you're up North or in a city, sit in traffic. And, for those of us in the South, a chance to visit shooting ranges (free!) and shoot a bunch of targets and stuff.

My friend Xavi and I, and perhaps some others, will be getting our hunting licenses soon, so we're trying to bone up on guns and shooting and improve our skills. Below are some videos of us doing just that, with a borrowed AR-15. Very nice!

As you'll see, Xavi enjoys the fast shooting, a very fun and very expensive maneuver.  I too enjoy this, though perhaps not as much, and not in the video below.

Gardening

So far, this is my best garden to date. Much hard work by Beth and me.

I'm looking forward to posting more soon, detailing what we are growing and how.

For now, you can see the whole thing, more or less, in these photos. The first photo is the back of the garden (farthest from the road). Each photo is progressively closer to the road.

We have onions, taters, tomatoes, artichokes, chard, kale, salad greens, arugula, garlic, herbs, three or four types of pole beans, peas, soy beans, Lima beans, bell peppers, five or six types of hot peppers, cabbage, broccoli, broccoli rabe, sweet potatoes, tomatilloes, corn, pumpkins, squash, zucchini, poppies, and cress. I may be forgetting something, though that's the best I can currently do.

Stay tuned for more.

Unicycle Riding

I just got to work, after a 7.6 mile ride on the unicycle. It was a great ride, though toward the end, I felt sort of like there was a fire burning in my loins.

My friend, the one who taught me to unicycle, has done multiple 50-mile rides, and is currently considering a ride to the ocean from Asheville.

It's probably a good thing that my wife is already pregnant. This just can't be good for those little tadpole fellers.

Absences Again

As usual, I'm so busy doing stuff that I'm having a hard time keeping up with my narration of my deeds.

On the horizon, post-wise:

1. Garden Recap and Photos: The garden this year is one of my proudest achievements to date. It looks great, it seems to be growing well (though the recent cold has probably slightly stunted growth), and it is much larger than last year.

2. Fermentation Adventures: Garden Kimchi, made with radish greens, turnip greens, radishes, and bok choy (the only main ingredient not from my garden). Recipe and photos to follow soon. Also, mead and various beers.

3. Motorcyle Adventures: Off-Road, Back-Country, Camping. Photos to follow soon.

4. New Job. I no longer teach. I now sell guitars, which is weird and so far, quite cool.

5. Baby on the horizon. September. Photos to follow in September.
